Top Venues for five different kind of travelers
From opulent luxury to circus-themed rooms and the best cake in town, we’ve had a look at the best places to rest your head on your summer holiday in Vienna.
Like most buildings in this charming city, hotels in Vienna have history in every pore of their imposing walls. Some are situated in former palaces that saw royals sleep and dine within their walls while others are light oasis in quirky parts of town. What does your summer need? Intense princess levels of pampering or breakfast in a hammock? Here’s both:
For IT Girls: Sofitel Stephansdom
Find it at: Praterstraße 1
A hotel like a work of art. Located in the north of the city, it is both close to the historic center but also further away from the crowded alleys you want to avoid during holidays. Overlooking the Donaukanal, this five-star experience is one of the most tempting hotels in Vienna. The building itself is an avant-garde masterpiece of glass and contemporary art built by French architect Jean Nouvel together with a team of young artists from the University of Vienna – and you can see that in every asymmetric corner.
But the modern rooms and comfy beds are not the only things to be discovered. There is no summer holiday without some pampering and a proper party – and thee Sofitel can offer you both without even leaving the building (although we wouldn’t recommend that for your entire holiday). So Spa is a magical place with Jacuzzis surrounded by candles overlooking the city and quite a few floors up, Das Loft awaits with fine food and strong cocktails in a fantastically designed lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows. It doesn’t get cooler than this.
For Shopaholics: Park Hyatt
Find it at: Am Hof 2
Hotels in Vienna don’t get more central than the Park Hyatt and its location in the heart of the Goldenes Quartier makes it ideal for a fashionista planning to browse all the designer stores in town one by one. Armani, Prada and Luis Vuitton are right next door, with the fashion wonders of the Kohlmarkt just a few steps away. The hotel even provides special services for your shopping needs, like a team of concierges with personal shoppers and hotel delivery.
The century-old former bank building is also a fantastic destination for a romantic holiday, with international gourmet cuisine and an impressive luxury spa to share some pampering with your other half. There is also a lavish cigar lounge, if that’s your thing.
For A Sweet Tooth: Hotel Sacher
Find it at: Philharmoniker Straße 4
Another great couple destination if Hotel Sacher and its Belle Epoque ambiance. The opulent yet timeless elegance of the place will make you feel like royalty – and it’s not just a metaphor, with the guest list including Queen Elizabeth or John F. Kennedy. The classic décor is ideal for sophisticated tastes and you an even take that in the literal sense, with the ground floor housing the Sacher Café, the home of the famous Sachertorte, the chocolate cake with a secret recipe that charmed Emperor Franz Joseph.
The offer is completed by the luxurious Sacher Boutique spa, an art gallery with pieces from the 19th century and the famous cherry velvet Rote Bar.
For Instagram Addicts: 25hours Hotel Museumsquartier
Find it at: Lerchenfelder Straße 1-3
New district, new style and the 25hours hotel is a one-of-a-kind location. The seventh district in which it resides is a hotbed for talented local artisans and upcoming fashion designers so the hotel could not rise to the challenge. Welcomed by a ‘We are all mad here’ motto and an explicit circuit theme, thee space shows its true colours from the start – but that doesn’t take anything away from their professionalism and top services.
As one of the most eccentric hotels in Vienna, you won’t get one of those non-descript rooms that could be located literally in any hotels in the world; illustrations, circus props, bath tubs on the balcony and bright colours all around – hence plenty to Instagram. If you want to mingle with equally fun-minded people, the rooftop bar is a perfectly chill option.
For Nature Lovers: Daniel Hotel
Find it at: Landstraßer Gürtel 5
From crazy fun to absolute relaxation. Hotel Daniel is a further from the tourist center but next to the wonderful gardens of the Belvedere and that gives it a very remote feel. And while Baroque decorations are eye-catching, there is a simpler option when you just want to rest on your summer holiday. Their idea of smart luxury reflects in immaculately white linens with quirky details like raindance showers or hammocks inside the room.
But the best suite you can reserve is the converted trailer in their garden. It’s intimate, cool and has a bathtub overlooking the natural scenery – how cool is that?
Then again, is there an uncool place in Vienna? I’m yet to find it. Feel free to look for yourself and discover this historical city on your next summer holiday.
