Gucci is a luxury fashion label with a history of over 90 years and it is one of the most popular in the world. Even though it has been through really rough times, it managed to rise up and above its initial status. Just like Louis Vuitton or Prada, Gucci started as a small company making leather bags and luggage. Its founder Guccio Gucci, has worked for a really long time in the hotel business in Paris and London and saw a lot of elegant trunks going in and out of the facilities. After returning to his native Florence, he opened a shop where he sold such bags and trunks which he also produced, as the Italian city is famous for its skilled leather artisans. After World War II, the company expanded to clothing, accessories and footwear and began its global ascent. Gucci became synonymous with Florence and celebrities in the 70s were crazy about the luxurious, high-quality items from the Italian brand. During the early ’90s, the company experienced some problems due to change of management, but things started to get better a few years on, after Tom Ford, at the time a young Texan, became creative director, according to the Gucci Brand Profile. He is famous for the sultry campaigns he put together for the Italian fashion house. He stayed at Gucci until 2004 and a year later his part was taken over by Frida Giannini, a designer who was already with the brand, working under Ford’s guidance.
