Dries Van Noten is a Belgian designer, born in Antwerp and part of the Antwerp Six, the famous group of designers including Ann Demeulemeester. After working as a freelance designer, in 1986, Dries Van Noten launched his own collection of trousers, blazers and shirts. The line was an instant hit and was bought by prestigious retailers such as Barneys New York. The designer opened the label’s first boutique in Antwerp, but after a few years he moved it to a spacious building, setting the bases for what is now known as the upmarket shopping area of Antwerp. The Dries Van Noten Brand Profile states that the collections are very eccentric which is why the label lost some its popularity during the ‘90s, but only to regain it after the year 2000. Actresses Cate Blanchett, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Princess Mathilde of Belgium are some of the Dries Van Noten’s loyal customers. You will easily recognise a Dries Van Noten piece due to the use of print fabrics, colours, original patterns and a unique way of layering.
