Cartier is a French brand designing, producing and selling jewellery and watches since 1847, when it was founded in Paris by Louis-François Cartier. Like many other such labels, Cartier started as a family business as it is now owned by Compagnie Financière Richemont SA. Cartier was once described as the jeweler to the kings and the king of jewelers. This came as a result of the numerous orders from royal houses for tiaras and other special pieces. The kings and queens of Spain, Russia, Belgium or Romania are just some of the Cartier fans. Probably the most famous piece made by Cartier is the Panthère, a brooch created in the '40s for the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson. The motif was used for many Cartier designs, as the house experimented femininity through the fierce feline. The spirit of excelence in the Cartier jewellery conquered princes from India, the aristocrats in Russia and England and the Hollywood celebrities. The Santos and the Tank are two of its most famous watch designs which have been reinvented throughout history and are still fascinatingly elegant. In order to show the world the beauty of the Cartier jewels, the French house has started putting together a collection of its most important pieces, form its root,s back in the 19th century, to this very day. The exhibit travels the world and promotes the beautiful pieces with the most special settings and gems.
