VIENNAFAIR 2011
Fashion found in Contemporary Art
These days the VIENNAFAIR 2011, an international trade fair for contemporary art with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe showed selected works from 120 galleries. Although I saw quite interesting artworks mainly from Russia, Romania and Hungary my attention was caught by three artists whose works maybe unintentional mirrored actual trends in fashion. Franziska Maderthaner´s Beyond A&P featured Miuccia Pradas revival of multicolored stripes as well as the timeless marinière bleu while Xenia Hausner´s Rouge matched the beautiful red dresses of Jil Sander or Rodarte. Finally Wilma Hurskainen´s Pennies image found it´s fashionable mirror in David Koma´s new Fall collection full of dots. Art matches Fashion and vice verse at least in the eyes of some unbiased viewers ;)
