… purchase of the collection by WestLicht in March 2011. It had been put on the market by the liquidators dealing with the assets of the insolvent Polaroid company. The acquisition secures the continued existence of this historic collection and opens it to a broad public for the first time. The collection encompasses around 4400 pieces by 800 artists among them are the large format works shot on 20×24 inch film (50x60cm) made with a special camera which is 1.50 meters in height and weighs 106kg. We selected famous polaroids shot by Oliviero Toscani (Andy Warhol with Camera, 1974), Helmut Newton, Sahin Kaygun (Nude, 1983), Mark Morrisroe (Nyph-o-maniac, 1983), Gottfried Helnwein (Untitled, 1987) and Peter Beard (Untitled, 1987). So if you plan to visit Vienna during summer don´t miss this exhibition.
