Short Documentary by Anastasia Taylor-Lind
Anastasia Taylor-Lind takes us on a trip to Siberia where she created a short film about the hopes and big expectations of very young girls who want to become an international supermodel, traveling around the globe and walking for the biggest names in the fashion industry.
For her short film Anastasia accompanied Noah Models, a Russian Model Agency on their casting tour through drab community halls or gyms in different cities of Siberia. With her images she documented the treasure hunt for the so called “Russian Look – oversized Bambi eyes, small rosebud lips and china-doll like high cheekbones.“
Modelling agencies across Siberia run schools for girls from the age of five. Here they learn how to walk, pose, diet, and apply make-up. At the castings, identified by numbers pinned to their bikinis and with their vital statistics (name, age, height and measurements) written on prison-style boards, each young woman walks, talks and poses for a panel of scouts who decide about the future of these young girls.
But for each girl who succeeds like Nastya Karzan, from Prokopyevsk, there are hundreds more dreaming of the chance to work abroad and live their own Cinderella story just to fulfill the dream to becoma one of the Siberian Supermodels.
We love the foto story of Anastasia, for which she also received the 1st prize in the Feature Picture-Story at the Pictures of the Year International (POYi). If you want to see more visit her portfolio site.
